Overview of the services of telemedicine in Europe

Overview of the services of telemedicine in Europe

I was wondering for a long time about this article, because at the present time there is no end of the implemented solutions 🙂 I decided to prepare a summary, so you can familiarize yourself with the best telemedical solutions 2013 AD. What is more these solutions are becoming more prevalent due to the greater availability of mobile solutions. Therefore, I invite you to read.

In the far north

A country which is one of the least populated in Europe – Norway. The further towards the north, the more snow, the more distant are human settlements from each other. No wonder why Scandinavian crime fiction are becoming increasingly popular. Emptiness, lack of contact with other people … It’s the perfect place to commit a crime.

But difficulties in contacting in Norway are not only the perfect canvas for crime, they are a real problem. Especially in matters related to health and medicine. Great distances prevented frequent appointments at the surgery. Commuting absorbs time and money which mean that fewer patients receive the help they need.

The situation of contact between doctors and patients has improved thanks to telemedicine. The introduction of this type of service was comparable to other revolutions in medicine that have occurred over the centuries. The ability to hold consultations with a doctor at a distance, or carry out the examination in this way was certainly a shock to many people. It soon turned out, however, how much benefit can be achieved in this way.

In Norwayof telemedicine services mostly are used in cases of dermatological cases. The diagnoses are issued at a distance, based on the photos that were taken of sick places and descriptions of people with lower medical staff. Mostly the heart is examined. It can be done by using telemedicine equipment. There is also possibility to use video conferencing with your doctor during dialysis. Ability to talk through the Internet between medical staff allows them to have more trainings. There also appeared the idea of using psychological help through the Internet. The research have shown that many people talk easily about their problems “online”, not when sitting face to face with a psychologist.

Continuation of Scandinavia

Sweden is in turn the most populous country in northern Europe. They are benefited by telemedicine for a long time, because since 1915. Developed in:
– home care
– dentistry
– ophthalmology
– geriatrics,
– dermatology,
– psychiatry.
It issued more and more electronic prescriptions. The most popular is teleradiology. There are numerous projects that allows using the treatment on distance while taking care of the sick. Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Estonia and Lithuania are working together on the development of telemedicine and place it on the Health and Social Care.

German order

In Germany telemedicine deals with:
– carrying out ECG at a distance
– monitoring of elderly people in their homes through a system of telecare

– sharing of research results to physicians
– consultations on distance at times convenient for the patient
– conduct helplines, which control all the changes detected by the device telemedicine.

Companies involved in this type of services are constantly growing, looking for more and more skilled workers. There are opening up new prospects in the labor market.

German priority is to ensure dependent patients comfort and safety.

Across the ocean

In the United States the citizens buy for themselves a health insurance or do it for the employer. Each medical service has a price, a simple visit to the clinic is an additional expense. So there appear the big advantage of telemedicine. It is considered as an opportunity to cut the cost of treatment. The most common use of the telemedicine is for consultation on distance. Although patient satisfaction are discussions about whether, in any case initially looking for something harmless can make a diagnosis at a distance. The most popular service are various applications that allow, for example, an X-ray without necessity to go to the doctor.

What is going on with the telemedicine?

It is important that the development of new medical solutions are slowly moving to Poland. Of course, we have to remember that with the progress of technology there are appearing great opportunities, but also a big responsibility. Solutions that offers us modern medicine requires well-trained people, but also the confidence of patients. The method of treatment is changing and only when everyone adjust to their role (the doctor or a sick person) it will improve the quality of treatment.

5 technical trends which change our attitude to health

Today we know that technology is going to develop, innovative tools within health care will play a very large role in our choices and will show how we care about health and what we know about it.

1. Telemedicine

Getting to the specialist is not always easy and takes time, telemedicine may be the solution to many problems associated with the availability and speed of being in touch with a specialist.

Telemedicine – the form of telephone consultation or a “virtual visit” – is a relatively new development, but the concept has been accepted and begins to develop, has the ability to capture a large market for medical advice.

Such a remote doctor can check your child’s throat, do dermatological checking, and even send the prescription to the pharmacy. What is certain is that – telemedicine does not replace traditional medicine; does not replace the relationship with your doctor when he is needed. This will help in everyday life, making it easier for patients to quickly contact a specialist, while increasing the bit rate in health.
2. Trackers

Gadgets that use sensors to measure motion, track steps, burned calories, heart rate, body temperature, and even sleep phase – is one of the fastest growing areas of technology, health and sports.

Today, technology allows you to transparently provide information that will motivate us towards the objectives, show trends of our activity, or indicate threats to our health.

With the help of trackers, people take seriously enhancing the quality of life and health, while treating it as entertainment and fun.

Today trackers, in Poland still not so popular, are best-selling in the world and pave the way for a new quality and a more conscious life.

Fitbit, Withings or Jawbone are brands that soon will be all over the world to support people in their daily choices and activities.
3. Applications prescription

We already have mobile apps that can help diagnose the symptoms of a sick child, or send blood pressure, read and record the heart rate to a doctor. We test slimming programs that are able to estimate the calories consumed meals, mobilize us for training and record its course, giving guidance to the next activity. Many applications will attempt to point out the correlations of our life choices. In a short time, during a visit to the doctor can get instead of the next aspirin prescribed application that will help konktetnej complaint or monitoring performance and doctor’s indications.

In fact, in 2015, 500 million smartphone worldwide users will use the application to different types of health care, more systematically will be creating new mobile applications and devices for the prevention of contact with the patient.

Contests are cyclical and like every year, they are addressed to all companies and entrepreneurs in the building sector, local governments, institutions and companies operating in the medical market and companies from Mazovia, regardless of the nature of ownership of the company, its size or number of employees. Remote control TeleEKG or videoconsultations are not only an excellent supplement to the medical offerfor the institution, but also a tool in constant contact with the patient – convinced medical directors during the gala.

Is really e-revolution in medicine postponed?

Is really e-revolution in medicine postponed?

According to the Act about the information system, hospitals and clinics should conduct medical documentation in electronic form from 1 August 2014. This date is not feasible. We are currently working on the revision of laws – said to “Rzeczpospolita” Health Minister Slawomir Neumann. (see http://archiwum.rp.pl/artykul/1215126-Service-zdrowia:-e-revolution-odwolana.html)

I am watching how implementation of e-documentation is implemented and the horror I see is that further attempts to implement the products of the infamous Centre for Health Information Systems burn on the pan. It is amazing that they are burned out millions of zlotys Polish taxpayers. That CSIOZ is not able to implement a uniform standard has long been known, but beseeches reality shifting more and more tasks related to e-revolution for doctors and hospital directors.

Why CSIOZ defend so much its concept which is in fact unrealistic in the implementation? I do not really know. But I do know that the market is shaping customer behavior and solutions. They should not do something to which even at the level of commission does not have even the infrastructure. As I was able to see about 40% of health care institutions and NZOZ do not have access to the Internet. So, how to enjoy the benefits offered by the officials? I do not know … But there’s a glimmer of hope.

Observing the market, in MedGo we provide a comprehensive solution for nZOZu. In addition, to the virtual office and online patient account and where it is needed – telecomunication – we deliver Internet. I am glad that we are not the only ones on the market. Because customers are forcing us to create new ways of communication with a medical institution and electronic facilitate  actually translate into increased efficiency in administrative processes in medicine. But what flows from this conclusion ….

Dear CSIOZ and MZ instead of having Byzantine taffy and monopolize the market with systems which is untenable and failed implementations, may be it would be better develop a great standard for communication and data exchange, but implementation give in hands of hospital directors or companies such as MedGo which are definitely more motivated than government agencies.
